|Three day canoe trip on the Ord river
We did a three day canoe-trip from the Ord river dam down the Ord to Kununurra. Very beautiful but also very tireing. My shoulders are sore and my ass feels like lead, but I survived the 53Km :-)
We saw lot's of birds (cockatoos, ospreys, darters, herons, ibis, geese, pelicans, kite etc. ) and other animals (monitor, green tree snake, baby croc (30cm) wallaroo, cows :-)). On the last day of paddeling we wanted to visit some aboriginal rock art on 'Elephant Rock'. Of course we couldn't find the spot we were supposed to land the canoe (we should have gone 20 metres further on a side creek) we landed somewhere else along the river. Since we didn't know where the rock art was we went looking for it. Big Mistake :-) We spent almost an hour looking for it high up on the rocks only to find it was very close to the water. We did get a excellent view of the countryside though. After seeing the art, which was so spectacular that I didn't even bother to make a picture, we tried to go back to the canoe. Of course we couldn't find it back. It cost us more that an hour of bushbashing to find it. Daan and Oskar the great explorers...............
